Au Sable River -
Grayling, Crawford County -
3 miles east of Grayling. Popular canoe river and for trout
fishing. Various spots to enter and many canoe rentals around
river.
Au Sable River, South Branch - Deerheart Valley, Crawford
County - At Chase Bridge, passes through Mason Tract Preserve
(bike and hike trails), Canoe Liveries nearby.
Betsie River - Thompsonville, Benzie County - 6 miles
northeast of Thompsonville. Designated wild scenic river. Grass
Lake Forest Campground. Frequent access points, camping.
Boardman River - Williamsburg, Grand Traverse County
- For experienced canoeists. Designated wild scenic/ Country
Scenic River. Put in at Forks Forest Campground. River known
for trout fishing. Feeds into Lake Michigan.
Chippewa River - Barryton, Mecosta County - Enter at
Barryton Dam. Campgrounds and numerous access points. Exit in
Midland or Tittabawassee River.
Inland Waterway - Conway, Emmet County - Chain of Lakes
and Rivers, Crooked Lake to Lake Huron at Cheboygan. Passes
through Mullett Lake and Burt Lake where winds and waves can
be challenging.
Pere Marquette River - Baldwin, Lake County - 2.5 miles
south of Baldwin. Designated National Scenic River. Enter at
M-37 bridge. River has rapids and is for experienced canoeists
only. Exit at Custer Bridge.
Pine River - Luther, Lake County - 5.5 miles north of
Luther. Popular river suitable for experienced canoeists. Enter
at Silver Creek Forest Campground. Some rapids. Exit at Low
Bridge.
Platte River - Honor, Benzie County - 2 miles southeast
of Honor, suitable for beginners. Enter at Platte River Forest
Campground. Passes through Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
Exit at Lake Michigan.
Rifle River - Lupton, Ogemaw County - Designated Wild
Scenic River. Enter at Rifle River State Recreation Area. Rapids
hazardous for novices. Exit at bridge above Saginaw Bay.
Thunder Bay - Atlanta, Montmorency County - Enter at
Lake 15 Forest Campground. Nice stream with some quick areas.
Reservoirs and dam portages, exit at Lake Huron.
